These tales stink when they happen to you - but man, they're fun to read about, especially when we can empathise. I've been there, not with Cathay, but with other airlines and their rebooking/cancellation shenanigans. I remember a tight call for one flight taking off late at night for Lagos, we were mere minutes from the curfew and I had to be on the ground the next morning (otherwise my boss would have castrated me I fear). We got lucky that time.
They do indeed make great stories after the fact. Glad you made it out before the curfew that time, always a risk when heading back for work the next day…
The last time we flew Cathay I was not impressed. I hadn't flown it for many years and back then it was simply wonderful. But we last flew it, now 6 years ago, a lifetime, but we'd flown Singapore Air the first round of our trip and silly me, I wanted to check out Cathay again. What a mistake. Thanks for sharing your experience, I am not alone!
oh no 😬 but I do sure hope they turn it around. Unfortunately the rankings are misting based on screen size, meals, etc and the customer service and digital experience is really what is on par with budget airlines now.
Sorry to hear that bud. Agreed, it seems like good airlines are harder to find these days. Really not a fan of the whole splitting up people on a booking that seems to be taken root across all levels of carrier.
Ah 2014 the glory days of Cathay. Now it’s very much hit and miss. Sometimes they’re really good, sometimes they just couldn’t care less. Things are especially worse at their outstations (ie London) but in HK you also have fight them to get what you want sometimes. But their low cost subsidiary HKExpress is much worse. I would avoid flying them with kids!

not the dreaded curfew! sadly that's happened to me a few times in the last few years. I don't know if there's a decent airline around these days.
