“This city didn’t give me stillness, but it gave me depth.” - Brilliant. And relatable. I have a city in mind that means about the same to me, too.

Also, that’s a banger of a subtitle!

Thanks so much, Trey! Which city means the about the same to you? I’m curious!

Barranquilla, Colombia

Barranquilla! What is it about the city that left that kind of impression on you?

The city's loud. They love their music blasted from a subwoofer at 2:00 a.m. on a Wednesday. Barranquilleros are night owls and early risers. It's impressive. The city moved, and I guess I learned to move with it. It's where I picked up Spanish. I learned how to fry patacones, surf, drink rum with no chaser, and dance salsa without counting in my head.

Barranquilleros love a good laugh. Old men play dominoes. Kids run and skate in the park. Everyone watches fútbol. Family is king. So is the arepa.

Despite the noise and clamour, I've never had a slower-paced life in any other city in the world. Barranquilla is full of contradictions like that. Just like me. I guess that's why I love it.

Ok, I'm done waxing poetic. Lol

Trey, never apologize for waxing poetic, this is great. That blend of chaos and calm you describe is definitely something I too seek. I love how the city taught you not just a language, but a rhythm. Thanks for sharing this, it makes me want to book a flight!
